What is mentoring and how does this programme differ from other mentoring opportunities at LBS?

Mentoring is a relationship between two people with the goal of professional and personal development. The relationship is based on mutual trust and respect and mentors can become trusted advisers and role models.

Remember, mentoring is not coaching or counselling, nor is it about helping a mentee secure a job. Mentors are not expected to drive the relationship and have all the answers.

Mentoring and your professional skills

The Graduate Masters Mentoring Programme gives you the opportunity to support someone with their professional development whilst at LBS.

To take part in this mentoring opportunity you will be asked to identify which professional skills you feel you can offer mentorship on. You will then be matched with a mentee who has identified these skills as something they would like to improve.

You will get to support a mentee with one of the following:

Before committing to the role, think...

What skills are you particularly good at?
Do you have skills that you have developed over time?
What skills would you like to help someone develop?
How could this role support you and your development?

You will need to offer suggestions, encourage, inspire and support your mentee to find their own solutions and develop the confidence needed to achieve their goal🎯

Let’s hear from some of our previous students who have been mentors on the programme:
