This template is made of pre-set content blocks. Each content
block contains several columns. These hold text, buttons, images, video, audio, and
animations. All you have to do when building a page is choose and add your preset blocks,
and insert your own content i.e. replace the placeholder text, image, or video with your
own.
Please save your progress often. To save, use the floppy disk icon on the top right of the
screen.
View modes
At the top
centre of the page, you have a choice of two modes:
- Edit mode - select this mode
when you want to add a content block or edit text, images, video or other content.
-
Design mode - select this mode when you want to duplicate, move, or remove a content
block or a column.
Design mode
When in design mode,
mouse over or click on the content block or column to reveal the blue block-specific menu. This menu will allow you to
move, duplicate, or delete the selected block or column.
If you are getting big gaps
between content blocks, select Design mode, and move the mouse around. You might have a
hidden leftover block. They will look like a thin blue line. Click on the blank column and
then the bin icon to remove it. It is good practice to make one last pass in search for
these once you have completed your LearnBrix.
Edit
mode
The Edit mode allows you to edit the content within blocks and chapters.
Select this mode and then mouse over the relevant block to reveal the black block-specific menu. If that menu doesn’t appear,
try clicking outside of the block and then mousing over it again.
Adding a new content block
To add a new content block, mouse
between content blocks until the blue “+” appears. Clicking on the “+” will open a menu
with all the available pre-set content blocks. Click on the desired content block to add it
to the page.
Editing a content block
While in Edit
mode, mouse over the content block to reveal the block-specific menu. The options in this
menu will depend on the type of content block e.g. if the block contains an image, the menu
will contain the ability to change that image.
This menu will also contain buttons to
move, duplicate or delete the block. If you wish to perform any of these three actions, we
recommend switching to design mode instead, as it offers more precision and better
results.
Editing and formatting text
This is a
simplified web-development tool, so text editing will behave somewhat differently than what
we are used to when using Word. The builder does not save automatically, so there is also no
“undo” and “redo” function. Please remember to save often. There is also no spell-check so
make sure your text is correct. You can do this by typing it into Word and then pasting into
the builder. It is advised to avoid applying formatting in Word to ensure it gets
copied over correctly.
If you are copying and pasting text, use keyboard shortcuts instead of the right-click
menu:
- Copy text: Ctrl + C
- Paste text: Ctr + V
- Cut text: Ctrl + X
-
Select all text in the column: Ctrl + A
If you are copying from Excel, copy the cell
contents, not the whole cell. (Go into the cell and select the contents, or select the
contents from the cell content bar in the ribbon.)
To edit the text, click on
the text area in the block and start typing. Highlight a section of text to reveal the text
editor menu.
If the piece of text is already formatted, click on the same formatting
button to deselect it. For example, if the text is already in Bold, click on “B” for bold to
deselect it and remove the formatting.
